Consultant for simulator acceptance project for European client. Obtained first ever approval to JAA Flight Navigation Procedures Trainer Level II for low cost helicopter trainer. Approval granted by UK CAA. Developed test plan, performed test in simulator and produced reports and technical graphics to support approval.

Emergency Medical Service Pilot – Mercy Air Base 14, Mojave
Flew Bell 412 helicopter in day and night VFR conditions for short-notice medical evacuation of injured. Area of responsibility included high desert, mountains, high temperature, limited performance missions. Shift worked enabled me to perform other jobs, such as helicopter simulation, writing, and expert witness for legal cases. Left because of job offered at Agusta Aerospace.

Ground and flight Instructor on Helicopter engineering Flight test techniques. Developed lessons and taught classroom theory and practice of testing of helicopters for civil and military certification. Wrote exercise briefs for student exercises, marked reports and presentations. Set up exercises on variable stability simulator, wrote manuals on flight testing. Taught numerous students on short and professional level courses. Conducted training on civil certification procedures for new European aviation company. Consultant on avionics integration project. Flew Bell 0H-58C, UH-1N, Sikorsky S-55 and Hughes 500 helicopters, various fixed wing aircraft.

Conducted engineering flight tests on new designs (Bell 427, 407, 430) and modifications for airworthiness approval of Canadian registered helicopters. Reviewed flight manuals, supplements, test plans and results to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Certified new Flight Management System for Canadian manufacturer for fixed wing and helicopters. Chairman of Transport Canada Navigation Database Integrity working group. Report of this committee widely quoted on the Bluecoat Digest for summarizing problem. Advised on helicopter accident investigation and development of new navigation systems (Differential GPS) Flew Department aircraft- Bell 206, Beech King Air. Primary project pilot on the Gazelle, conducted trials on other types, and was current on 6 types of helicopters. Flew performance, engineering, navigation and radio trails on a wide variety of helicopter types. Worked with all branches of UK military as well as civil service. Acted as “resident Canadian” in British environment. Ran major international helicopter competitions in 1981 and 1982.

Conceived, wrote and debugged computer program to emulate Collins CMS-80 Cockpit Control Display
Organized and ran Heli-Meet International '82 for the RAF Benevolent Fund. Larger than World Helicopter Championships (more entries, more events, more types etc.) and was done in one day (vice 5). At peak over 150 people in 6 locations worked on the event.
Author for Rotor and Wing International-(1992-1996, 2004-present) articles on: EH-101, Super Puma Mk II, Lynx Mk 9, Rooivalk, Mil -17, Polish W-3 Sokol, GEC Venom simulator, Mi-28, MH-60K, FADEC Fuel Controls, A129, Dragonfly, Mi-26, EC 135. Numerous technical columns on helicopter related matters.
Co-Author of book “Automatic Flight Controls” (4th edition printed Oct. 1993).
Author of "Cyclic and Collective" reviewed as most comprehensive book on helicopters to date.
